Tia Ramirez is a seasoned legal professional and dedicated public servant whose life and career are a testament to the power of hard work, family values, and a deep-seated commitment to the rule of law. Tia's roots in this community run deep. After graduating from Rancho Bernardo High School, she earned her Bachelor's Degree from San Diego State University, laying the foundation for a career dedicated to the city she calls home.

A Journey of Extraordinary Grit

Tia's path to the legal profession was defined by extraordinary grit. While working full-time, she attended the Thomas Jefferson School of Law as the mother of two toddlers, aged 2 and 4. Despite the intense demands of work and motherhood, she excelled, earning prestigious awards in both Deposition Practice and Advanced Trial Advocacy. This journey gave her a profound understanding of the challenges facing working families and the resilience required to uphold the law.

Current Leadership & Judicial Experience

Currently serving as the Chief Deputy City Attorney for the Gun Violence Reduction Unit, Tia manages critical operations and leads the charge in seeking Gun Violence Restraining Orders to remove guns from dangerous individuals, protecting our children, schools, and the citizens of San Diego. Her judicial experience is equally robust; as an Administrative Law Judge, she presided over state hearings. In that role, she was responsible for interpreting complex statutes and making pivotal evidentiary rulings, but more importantly, Tia ensured that every individual who appeared in her courtroom was treated with dignity and respect. This balanced background of advocacy and neutral decision-making has prepared her to serve the bench with integrity and wisdom.

Champion for Victims & Public Safety

Prior to her current role, Tia spent years championing the rights of victims and fighting for public safety. She led the Domestic Violence and Sex Crimes Unit as both a Chief Deputy City Attorney and Supervising Deputy City Attorney, overseeing case processing and providing strategic guidance to junior Deputies for criminal trials. Throughout her tenure, she has successfully litigated numerous trials as first chair, mentored junior deputies as a second chair, and managed high-priority cases. Her career has been a steady, principled climb of increasing responsibility within the City's most critical legal units.

Service as a Family Value

For Tia, service is a family value. Her husband is a United States Marine combat veteran who served the country during combat deployments to both Afghanistan and Iraq before retiring in 2023. He now wears another uniform in the service to our community. Their oldest son continues the family tradition of hard work, currently away at college pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering. Today, they remain active members of the San Diego community, living with her beloved fur baby, Lexi, and their youngest son, who is currently saving to attend trade school. Beyond the courtroom, Tia is a dedicated mentor to prelaw students and an active member of several professional organizations.
